Hallo, I am from Belgium and I have a question about the brakes of my trabant 601. The brakes are suddenly broken while i was driving. They got stuck. I could't move the car anymore. Does anyone knows what the problem might be? I haven't open the brakes yet becouse I don't know much about the brakes. Can anyone help me? What are the steps i have to make and check to fix the brakes? Thank you Sven

It`s difficult to descripe, especially in english... How about your knowledges in german language? I recommend you to read the book "wie helfe ich mir selbst" from Metzner (Author). Therein you will find every step. Book is available via amazon.de. |

Hello, my english is better than my knowledge about the trabant! But which brakes are broken? The brakes at the front or reaer wheels? You can easily check this on: Just "pump" up your car with a WAGENHEBER (i dont know the english word!) and put off the gear and then try to turn every single wheel! This wheel which you can not turn there is the broken brake! I hope could help you! [Bearbeitet von Zoni (27-07-2001 - 10:35)] |

Hi, are you sure about the "broken brakes"? Maybe you have a problem with your engine (in german we would call it "Kolbenfresser")because the car doesn't move anyway. But I dont'hope so!!! Check this by putting of the gear and then try to manually turn/move the motor (turn the wheel at the "generator" or try to move the "Lüfter"). Hope someone else can help more! Good luck! |

Can you move your car when no gear ist activated? If one or more of the brakes is/are stucked, you could have a real problem. I don't know, but I think: If a brake is stucked, it's really hard to get the brake drum off because the brake block is pressed against the brake drum. Try the way with the jack.(=Wagenheber) When you'll have located the "locked" brake, take the wheel away and remove the screw. Then you should be able to look into your brakes after you'll have taken away the brake drum. Perhaps you have a problem with your re-adjustage-device (Nachstellvorrichtung) You also could try to solve your problem by removing the brake fluid. Perhaps, there is something blocking the fluid and "holding" the pressure of the brake fluid. Just try it. A Trabant isn't difficult to mend. Good luck! Auf Deutsch: |
