Can anyone suggest what I can do - or use - to stop the engine Ping? Do I need to change my fuel/oil mixture - I currently use 1:33 - or can I use an additive? Kind regards from Australia, Neil |

I think you have to optimize the ignition-point. There could be too much advance ignition. http://trabitechnik.com/index.php?page=2&type=book_list&table=whims2&lang=de&style=1&page_number=11 |

You should drive mixture 1:50, because your Trabi is built after 1974, I think. To drive with too much oil causes "coaking" of the pistons. This "coal" gets hot and the result is the "ping". Ignition should be ok, as you have the electronic ignition system that was built since sept. 1985. Also the spark plugs should be the right ones, for example NGK B7HS or Champion L82/L81 (see for details http://trabitechnik.com/pages/2006/zuendkerzen.htm) Kind regards, Marlene |

Pinging have a lot of reasons. The previous comments are having pointed out the main fact. But it may be helpfull to know more. Pings it all the time or just in specific situations? Which kind of carburettor is used on your car? Changes the rate of pinging due to increasing the choke? As you can see - a lot of questions. Feel free to ask. |
