I am new in this forum, as you see
But I am Trabifan from Bulgaria.

I have trabi from about five years .
It was my family old car.It sat without moving 10 years, but I decided to restore it all by myself.
And now I am driving it allmost every day .
I am also doing some upgrades to my Trabi .

I just found that forum and decided to join.
Sorry for my english, but unfortunately I don't know German yet.( I am still learning it )

So there goes the question :

I decided to change my rear trabant 601 drumm brakes with VW Golf rear drumm brakes.

And now I am searching for a sketch of the flange between the trabi carrier and the VW Golf hub.

Can you help me ?

Greetings

Hi and welcome to the pleasuredome!

Why do you want to change/replace the >rear< brakes? The original ones are not bad (the Handbrake is very good!) and all parts are still available and the´re not expensive.
What´s the reason?
Some Trabi-Owners change the FRONT-Brakes into Disc-Brakes (VW based - as chris said and as you can see at the shop), to get them more effective - but wy do you want to change the rear ones? I´m afraid it´s not so easy, as you may think. What about Technical Inspection of cars (in Germany: "TÜV") in Bulgaria?

Well I want to change the rear drumm brakes with VW because I want to install new wheels from BMW e21 without installing flange between tha original trabi brake and the BMW wheel .
It will be much easier to install a new drumm from trabi 1.1, but here in Bulgaria there are only 10 or 15 1.1 trabis.

I have some friends, that changed their rear drumm brakes and they said it is not so hard at all .
The handbrake wires stay the original and it is not that big change.

And the trabiparts here are all Hungarian made and the quality of production is not so good as the German production.

I allready have the flange for front disk brakes.
And I have these things : http://translate.google.de/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=de&tl=bg&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftrabiteile.de%2Fproduct_info.php%2Fproducts_id%2F692

But if I order the part which I need from Germany it will cost me a whole fortune
So everyone in my country make their flanges here in Bulgaria and it costs a lot cheaper to produce the parts here than buying them online.
That's why I need that sketch .

About the TUV here.
Well everything here is very different than in your country.
In your country the control is on s very, very high level .
I am sory to say that, but here things are not like that .
So the problem about the TUV is not so big as you might think.

That seems a big journey to travel with a retro car.
I can only admire you .

here is a album of my trabi as it is nowdays :

In this album you can see more fotos of my old trabi and the part of the work, wich I have done.
Of course it is not finished and I have a lot work to do.

That seems to be a cylindrical rear axle:

Therefore, I would install that modified Trabant brakedrums instead of the adapter stuff:

Perhaps you can buy 2 Trabant 1.1 brakedrums in Bulgaria and drill 4 holes in a 100mm circle.

There are sold a lot of hungarian parts in Germany too!

That is the main problem.
I have nowhere to buy a trabi 1.1 drumm .
In Bulgaria there are no trabi 1.1 .
There are few 1.1, but they are all bought after the Berlin wall fall .

My trabi is produced in Zwickau in 1989 and it is 601 .
In Bulgaria you can find only the model 601 .

Even the Bulgarians know already the very well known problem about the Hungarian spare parts. The best parts are according to my opinion from GDR production especially what concerns the fitting accuracy.
But these no longer produced good East German-made parts are well protected gold dust in the spareparts-shelf of each Trabant driver. No, I have no Trabant 1.1 parts.
