I have been reading a lot on this forum and it always strikes me how completely and utterly stupid some (all?) the rules about vehicles are. When I first heard that you have to have permission to use a different air filter I thought it was a joke!! At least we are allowed to do something like this in Denmark. On the other hand, in Germany you can actually get permission to mount a different engine in a car - that is almost impossible in Denmark.

I recently had a bad experience with TÜV because they plainly refused to inspect my Russian motorcycle with sidecar. The inspector commented that he did not like the welds on the frame (which are original) and though I should have the whole frame re-welded. Hmmm... The bike is 27 years old and has served in the Russian military. It would probably have fallen apart long ago if the welds were bad...

Many telephone calls later I finally found a friendly TÜV who will do the Vollabnahme ( = do his job!).

Some day I would like to sit face to face with the people who create all these stupid rules and tell them my opinion of them. I could probably even do it without words - a simple gesture with one finger would do

Feel free to reply in German. Like I have said before: I can read it, just not write it.

Martin, German is probably better because I get a chance to learn it better. Just don't ask me to write too much in German just yet.

Glad to hear you like TÜV

I had a couple of bad experiences with them and got the impression that they were not interested in helping because it would mean some sort of effort on their part. I come across this a lot in Germany; at the Zollamt, Bürgerbüro, Zulassungsstelle, Arbeitsamt etc. People act like you are a burden when you are really only asking them to do their work. Happens in Denmark too but not as bad as here. Most of my native colleagues agree but seem to accept it.

I guess I just have a hard time accepting the mysterious ways of Bureacracy.

Michael

PS: They recently lowered the tax on Beer and Alcohol in Denmark. Now everybody is too drunk to care about rules

But there are not only rules in good ol´Germany - we are not able to make a reasonable speed limit, like it is usual everywhere in the world.
